The People of the Great River - 30th Anniversary Edition

Written by Michael Tremmel of the Tonga Literacy Project, the book captures the stories of the Tonga elders and their lives before, during, and after they were forcibly removed from their homes, along the Zambezi River, in Zimbabwe.

This is the 30th-anniversary edition of The People of the Great River, published by Basilwizi Trust. It is beautifully illustrated by Loes Roos with drawings and portraits of the Tonga elders, and a map showing settlement by chiefdom before and after the valley floor was inundated by the river's waters to make way for Kariba Dam and Lake.
